Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper. He is one of the most talented and versatile indigenous rappers in the country, who is known for his witty lyrics and captivating flows in Yoruba and Pidgin English. He has released several hit songs, such as Dreams and Realities, Chache, Rapture, and Bounce, and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music industry, such as Reminisce, Zlatan, Lil Kesh, and Mayorkun. He is also the founder and CEO of his own record label, Omo Iya Aje Records.

Biography and Early Life

Oladips was born on March 24, 1995, in Ogun State, southwestern part of Nigeria. He is a native of Ogun State and belongs to the Yoruba ethnic group. He was born and raised in a modest family, with his mother being a nurse and his father being a businessman. He has three siblings, two brothers and a sister.

Oladips had a passion for music from a young age and started writing and composing songs when he was in primary school. He was influenced by the likes of 2face Idibia, 9ice, Olamide, D’banj, Reminisce, Lord of Ajasa, and the late legendary Dagrin. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Nursery and Primary School and later proceeded to King’s College, Lagos, for his secondary education. He was an active member of the school choir and drama club and participated in several inter-school competitions.

After completing his secondary education, Oladips relocated to Lagos State to pursue his music career. He enrolled at the University of Lagos, where he studied Mass Communication, but later dropped out due to financial constraints and lack of interest in academics. He decided to focus on his music career and began recording and releasing freestyles and covers of popular songs on social media platforms, such as Instagram, YouTube, and SoundCloud. He gained a lot of fans and followers who were impressed by his talent and creativity.

Entertainment Career

Oladips’ breakthrough came in 2015, when he won the D’banj’s “King is Here” competition, a rap contest that was organized by the Kokomaster himself. He beat over 8,000 contestants and emerged as the winner, earning himself a record deal with Edge Records, a label owned by Reminisce. He also received a cash prize of N1 million and a brand new car.

Oladips released his debut single under Edge Records, titled “Bounce”, featuring Reminisce, in 2015. The song was a hit and received positive reviews from critics and fans alike. He followed it up with another single, titled “Let Dagrin Down”, a tribute song to his late idol and mentor, Dagrin. The song was nominated for the Best Street-Hop Artiste category at the 2017 Headies Awards.

The EP contained four tracks, including “Mainland to Island”, “Consistency”, “Hallelujah”, and “Zaddy”. The EP was a fusion of rap and Afro-pop and was well-received by fans and critics alike. The EP also had a video for the title track, directed by Perliks Definition.

In 2021, Oladips released another EP, titled “Zaddy”, which was a solo project. The EP contained five tracks, including “Zaddy”, “Need You”, “Places”, “Omo Iya Aje”, and “Vain”.
