Atiku Abubakar is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and philanthropist who was born on November 25, 1946, in Jada, Adamawa State, Nigeria.
He served as Nigeria\’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007 under the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo.
Atiku studied at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he received a diploma in Law in 1969. He then worked for the Nigerian Customs Service for twenty years before retiring as a Deputy Director.
In 1989, Abubakar ventured into politics and was elected Governor of Adamawa State in northeastern Nigeria. He was later elected to the Nigerian Senate, representing the people of Adamawa State. In 1999, he was chosen by President Olusegun Obasanjo as his running mate, and they won the presidential election, with Abubakar serving as Vice President until 2007.
After leaving office, Abubakar returned to business and became a successful entrepreneur, founding companies such as Intel\’s West Africa and the American University of Nigeria. He has also been involved in philanthropic activities, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.
Abubakar has run for the presidency of Nigeria on several occasions, including in 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019. While he has not been successful in winning the presidency, he remains an influential figure in Nigerian politics and a major player in the country\’s business community.
