AVM Hassan Bala Abubakar was born on 11 September 1970 in Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State. He embarked on his journey in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) by enlisting as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 39 (NDA RC 39). On 19 September 1992, he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer.
During his educational pursuits, he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna. Additionally, he completed Ab initio and Basic Flying Training Courses at the 301 Flying Training School in Kaduna. Furthermore, he successfully accomplished Basic and Advanced Airborne Courses at the Nigerian Army Infantry Center and School in Jaji, as well as the Company Amphibious Operations Course at the Nigerian Army Infantry Center and School in Calabar. In pursuit of further knowledge, he attended the Junior and Senior Command and Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji. Throughout his illustrious career, Air Vice Marshal HASSAN BALA ABUBAKAR has held numerous significant appointments. He began as the Admin Officer of the 16 Engineering Wing, 1 Engineering Group at NAF Makurdi. Subsequently, he served as the Officer Commanding Admin Services Flight/Group Public Relations Officer at the 97 Special Operations Group in NAF Port Harcourt. He also took charge as the Officer Commanding the Yellow Squadron at the Air Force Military School in Jos. Furthermore, he served as the Admin Officer of the Primary Flying Training Wing at the 301 FTS NAF Kaduna and later as the SO1 Admin at the same unit.
His career progressed with appointments such as the Officer Commanding \’B\’ Squadron (Do 228) at the 81 Air Maritime Group in NAF Benin. He also acted as the Team Leader of the MILOB Team Site 615 Mahagi (Ituri Brigade) under MONUC. Additionally, he served as the Aviation Planning Officer at MONUC Air Operations in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Notably, he held the position of Commanding Officer of the Base Services Wing at the 81 Air Maritime Group in the Nigerian Air Force, Benin.
