Mallam Nuhu Ribadu Biography and Educational Background

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was born on the 21st of November 1960 in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, Nigeria. From 1966 to 1973, he was enrolled in Mustapha Primary School located in Adamawa and later attended Yelwa Government Secondary School in Yola from 1973 to 1978. Subsequently, between 1978 and 1980, he pursued his education at the College of Preliminary Studies in Yola.

Ribadu pursued a degree in law at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, from 1980 to 1983, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws. After completing a year at the Nigerian Law School, he was admitted to the Bar in 1984. Additionally, he furthered his legal education and obtained a Master of Law from the same university.

Career

After completing his studies, Ribadu wasted no time in joining the Nigerian Police Force. He commenced his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on January 1, 1986, serving diligently in the Nigeria Police Force. From 1990 to 1997, he held the position of Divisional Crime Officer for Ajegunle, Mushin, and Apapa.

Subsequently, he served at the Force CID in AIagbon Close, Ugos, progressing from Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1992 to Superintendent of Police in 1995. His dedication and competence led to his promotion to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police in 1998 and Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2002. During his tenure, he assumed the role of Head of the Ugal and Prosecution Department within the Nigerian Police Force.

On 19 June 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Ribadu as the National Security Adviser, recognizing his expertise and capabilities in the field of national security.

Politics and Appointment

After he got dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force by the Nigerian Police Service Commission (PSC) on December 2008, Nuhu Ribadu left Nigeria and assumed a fellowship at the Center for Global Development.

Following his return to Nigeria in 2010 after a period of exile, he made known his aspiration to become the President of Nigeria, announcing his candidacy under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). On Friday, 14th January 2011, he got adopted as the presidential candidate of the ACN.

In August 2014, he defected to the ruling People\’s Democratic Party (PDP) with the intention to vie for the Governorship of Adamawa State, Nigeria. However, he later switched his allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and contested for the governorship of Adamawa in both the 2019 and 2023 elections. Throughout the presidential campaign, he established a close bond with Bola Tinubu, becoming a trusted confidant.
