Julius Abure is a Nigerian politician, lawyer and the current Labour Party Chairman.
The Labour Party (LP) is a social democratic political party in Nigeria. It is one of the three major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It was created in 2002 by the Nigeria Labour Congress and was previously known as the Party for Social Democracy (PSD) before changing to its current name in 2003.
About Barr. Julius Abure
Julius Abure is a Nigerian politician, lawyer and the current LP chairman. He took over the leadership of the party following the death of Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, who died in Abuja on 29 December 2020.
Not much information is known on Julius Abure\’s biography, age and educational background, but some sources claim he hails from Edo State.
According to his Facebook profile, he graduated from the prestigious Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria.
Between 2010 to 2014, he worked at the Edo State Law Reform Commission., but he is currently a Principal at Abure Chambers.
Battle as Labour Party Chair
In April 2023, seven members of the National Working Committee of the party announced the replacement of Julius Abure with the National Vice Chairman (South), Lamidi Apapa, as the acting chairman of the party.
Speaking after an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat, Apapa said the NWC members acted on the judgment of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, which, on Wednesday (5th April 2023), restrained Abure from parading himself as the National Chairman of the LP.
Abure, on the other hand, had in a statement, raised an alarm accusing the APC of using thugs and a detachment of the Nigeria Police Force to invade the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
He further alleged that the \’agenda of the invaders was to inaugurate an illegitimate executive which has been chosen for them by their sponsors.\’
The move by the 7 man committee was countered by the 32 state chairmen of LP, who passed a vote of confidence in Abure to continue leading the party.
Chief Rotimi Kehinde, the chairman of the party in Kwara State stated that Abure’s removal would not stand because it didn’t follow the party’s constitution.
