Humphrey Anumudu: Nigerian Lawyer And LP Gubernatorial Aspirant Is Dead

Nigerian businessman, lawyer, and aspirant for the ticket of the Labour Party in the upcoming governorship election in Imo State, Chief Humphrey Anumudu has been found dead in his house. The late lawyer, who until his death, was a native of Obazu Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State was one of the top contestants in the race, having contested in 2019 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Anumudu had paid the sum of N25 million for the Labour Party’s Governorship form ahead of the election on November 11th 2023.

Other aspirants in the race include; Martins Agbaso, Captain David Mbamara(rtrd), Kelechi Nwagwu, Ike Ibe,  Charles Onyirimba, T.J Ehirim, Chinedu Amadi and Jack Ogunewe.

Chief Anumudu will be the third prominent death the Imo Labour Party has suffered since the election season began.

The first was Chukwunonye Irouno, the candidate for Okigwe Local Government Area State House of Assembly. The second, Christopher Elehu, who was the aspirant for the Onuimo Local Government Area in the Imo State House of Assembly was assassinated in his home.

Humphrey Anumudu Biography

Chief Humphrey Anumudu was a businessman, lawyer and politician. He was the younger brother to the late socialite, auto dealer and founder of Globe Motors, Willie Anumudu who died in April 2020 from COVID-19 complications.

This isn\’t the first time he\’d be contesting the gubernatorial tickets. In 1999, according to Imo Trumpeta, Anumudu won the PDP gubernatorial primaries ticket but had to give it up to Orlu zone\’s candidate, Chief Achike Udenwa in order to maintain equity.

In 2003, he emerged candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the gubernatorial race but lost in the main elections to Udenwa. In an interview with Punch, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education revealed that he (Nwajiuba) emerged winner in the legitimately conducted primaries election and collected the (party’s) flag at Eagles Square, Abuja.

In 2018, he picked the APGA gubernatorial ticket, but a day before the INEC deadline for the presentation of candidates, he switched to Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

In 2022, during Peter Obi\’s campaign, Chief Anumudu donated 27 Sienna vehicles for the 27 LGAs in Imo State to support Labour Party.

He later paid the sum of N25 million for the Labour Party’s Governorship form ahead of the election on November 11th 2023.

The late Barr Anumudu was reportedly found dead in his house in yet-to-be-unravelled circumstances. He is survived by his wife and children.
