Born on the 17th of October, 1961, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, is a Nigerian actor and comedian.
Mr. Ibu hails from Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State.
After elementary school, in 1974, Okafor moved to Sapele to stay with his brother, after his father’s demise. In Sapele, he did menial jobs so he could sponsor himself to school and support his family. After secondary school, he was admitted into the College of Education, Yola, but pulled out due to financial difficulties. He later enrolled in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, as soon as he was financially able to.
Entertainment Career
John Okafor began his journey in the Nigerian movie industry in 1998. Initially facing challenges in securing significant roles to showcase his talent, he later gained prominence in 2004 for his exceptional role in the blockbuster comic movie “Mr. Ibu,” where he portrayed the father of a mischievous son, with Osita Iheme playing the son’s role.
The movie became a national sensation and earned him the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Comic Actor in Nigeria in 2005. Mr. Ibu has acted in more than 200 Nollywood movies, including iconic titles like “Mr Ibu in London,” “Police Recruit,” “Ibu in Prison,” and “Keziah”.
