How To Make a Snail House With Almost $0

Rearing snails is one of the most lucrative farming today. Chicken, cattle, and other animals are popular, but snails are rarely spoken about.

This is because only a few people know how to manage these golden eggs.

A major reason snails don’t do well with the farmer is the type of cage used in rearing them. For me, I think solving the caging problem is like hitting a money jackpot because you become unstoppable from making money.

I have been into snail rearing for 3 years, and for the first two years, I also struggled with cage problems. However, this third year broke the ice, and I am happy my snails can now enjoy their new home.

I will show you how I made my problem-free snail house which cost me next to Zero dollars, unlike the failed houses that made a good amount. By the time you are done reading this article, I believe your snail farm will get better.

Snail Market Size

The demand for snails is more than the supply. Snails serve as a delicacy in more than half of the countries in the world. But, only a few people rear snails successfully.

Nevertheless, You must make proper findings about how well snails are appreciated in your targeted market. This would help you to know how many snails you want to rear. The number of snails you rear would also dictate how large your house would be.

What To Consider Before Rearing Snails

I wanted to add this section because of readers that might be new to snail farming. It is also very useful for snail farmers that need a redirection about their snail farm.

Snails can make you good money and are excellent meat for your family. The first thing you must do is identify why you are rearing snails. It’s not enough to like snails; you have to know why you are rearing.

The next thing you must consider is the habitat. Is your house/farm suitable for farming snails? You don’t want those cute little things to die because of unsuitable habitats. Below is a list of important things to watch before rearing snails.

  • Wetland
  • Direct soil for planting
  • Cool-weather

How To Make a Snail House

After assessing and ensuring your place is suitable for rearing snails, you can move on with making the cage.

Make The Walls

Get sticks or Iron rods, fix a net on it and place it in the four corners of your designated perimeter. Try not to make something bigger or smaller than your snail capacity. The height would depend on what you want to plant in the house.

Make A Roof

Some farmers make their net wall tall enough to keep the snails in, but I prefer making a top for my snail house. I feel it keeps them in check. If you are making a roof, let it be the same size as the net wall.

Your roof is supposed to be made with a net too. You can decide to add shady material so your snails can enjoy the darkness they love.

Add Plants

Once you have the walls and roof of your snail house, the basic purpose can be achieved. You can decide to add plants at this point. It is advisable to add soil to the ground before planting. Just a decent quantity is ok.

Add A Safety Dome

The last thing to do is to add a safety dome. I call it a safety dome because it can save your snails from external factors you don’t have control over, like heavy rain, wind, e.t.c. Get any spacious old container, then cut open ventilation for the snails. After that, you can gently place it in your snail house.

Final Thoughts

Now you know how to make your snail cage without spending money. You get luckier if you have the needed materials in your store. Meanwhile, Don’t forget to clean and maintain your snail house properly.
