David Hundeyin Biography and Early Life

David Inyene-Obong Nugboyon Oluwaseun ‘Dario’ Hundeyin was born on May 6, 1990, in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. His mum is an Ibibio woman, while his father is from the Egun sub-ethnic group. He attended Atlantic Hall School in Lagos from 2001 to 2003, Grange School from 2003 to 2005

Hundeyin initially studied mass communications at Igbinedion University before going overseas to study creative writing at the University of Hull and graduating in 20112. After working several jobs including a contract position at KPMG, he returned home to Nigeria in 2013.

Career

David Hundeyin started his career in the public relations and communication industry, working as an intern, account executive and head of content at BHM Group Nigeria from 2014 to 2016. He also co-founded Nova Animation and Copywriting Studio in 2016, where he worked as a creative director until 2018.

He ventured into television writing in 2017, when he joined Channels Television’s The Other News with Okey Bakassi, a satirical news show that was featured in The New Yorker Magazine and in a Netflix documentary. He also contributed to CCN Markets from 2018 to 2019.

Recently, Hundeyin has been in the news for his alleged political persecution by the Nigerian government. He has claimed that the Nigerian government is trying to extradite him from Ghana, where he is currently seeking asylum, back to Nigeria. Hundeyin has appealed to the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, not to allow the Nigerian government to repatriate him from Ghana.

The Government of Ghana has officially responded to claims by Hundeyin that Ghana declined a request by the Nigerian government to extradite him. In a statement, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration dismissed the assertions by Hundeyin as “false and without basis.” The ministry spokesperson stated categorically that the Government of Ghana did not receive any extradition request from Nigeria regarding Hundeyin.

Personal Life

Hundeyin got married at the age of 25, but he is currently divorced. He met his ex-wife during his National Youth Service Corps, and the duo married shortly after. Their union lasted for three years before it hit the rocks.
