Adeniyi Bashir Adewale, originally from Modakeke in Osun state, served as the spokesperson for the Customs department for nearly two decades until January 2017.
Adeniyi gained national recognition when he oversaw the confiscation of $8.07 million in cash, which was being illegally transported out of Nigeria through the E-Wing of the international airport. As a result, he was assigned as the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
With more than 30 years of dedicated service, Adeniyi has made significant contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (earned in June 1987) and a Master of Arts degree in Communication Science from Universitaire Svizzera D\’Italina (USI) – Lugano, Switzerland (earned in November 2013).
Previously, Adeniyi served as the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja, and held the position of National Public Relations Officer of Customs from June 2003 to May 2011.
In recognition of his outstanding work, Adeniyi was honored with the Comptroller-General of Customs award for the seizure of $8,065,612 in cash at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in January 2020.
Currently, Adeniyi serves as the Vice President on the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR).
In October 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari bestowed upon Adeniyi the esteemed National Honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
