Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila Biography and Educational Background

Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila was born on the 25th of June, 1962 to the family of Lateef Gbajabiamila and Olufunke Gbajabiamila. His father was a highly respected sports administrator who served in various prominent positions, including Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Council and the National Sports Commission. His mother on the other hand was a teacher.

He was born in Lagos and received his elementary education at Mainland Preparatory School. In 1973, he enrolled at Igbobi College and completed his secondary education there. Later, he pursued his A-Levels at King William\’s College on the Isle of Man, United Kingdom.

He gained admission to the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and graduated in 1983 with an LL.B. degree in Law, earning honors.

In 1984, Femi Gbajabiamila was called to the Nigerian bar.

After starting his career at the law firm Bentley Edu & Co. in Lagos, Femi Gbajabiamila ventured into establishing his own law firm, Femi Gbaja & Co. Subsequently, he pursued higher education and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Atlanta\’s John Marshall Law School in Georgia, USA.

Career and Politics

In 2003, Femi Gbajabiamila secured his first election to the House of Representatives, representing the Surulere I constituency of Lagos State.

During the 7th National Assembly, he held the position of Minority Leader in the House of Representatives.

In 2015, he got appointed as the majority leader by the House of Representatives. He was initially pushed for the speakership slot but narrowly lost to Yakubu Dogara.

In 2019, Gbajabiamila achieved a significant milestone by being elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 9th National Assembly, receiving an impressive 281 votes. His opponent, Mohammed Umar Bago, secured the second position with 76 votes.

In 2023, following the victory of Bola Tinubu in the presidential elections, Femi Gbajabiamila got appointed as the Chief of Staff. With the recent development, Hon.
